This is a Cubbi bear by Gund, which was was founded in 1898 by Adolf Gund in Norwalk, Connecticut. The company originally made early mechanical toys before shifting heavily into plush animals, where it became a major competitor to European teddy bear makers. Gund is especially known for its emphasis on softness, huggability, and child-safe construction.
The “Cubbi” bears (as collectors commonly call them) fit into Gund’s broader strategy during the late 20th century: producing smaller, highly cuddly bears with simplified facial features, velvety fabrics, and a more modern aesthetic compared to earlier “jointed” teddy bears.
This model was introduced in the 1950s and appears to be in fair condition, having been well-loved and much played with in the last 75 years.
This model of bear has come up for sale at auction previously, usually bringing prices ranging from $20-50, depending on condition.
