Bough for 10,000pounds in the 80s at auction I belive. Sad in at an office in a trunk since then.
Dear Reuben,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a Chinese Qing Dynasty finely carved amber figurine with 26cm x 12cm x 12cm measurements. The figurine depicts a standing pig and was made from translucent amber with inclusions. Such carvings are common as a symbol of wealth and the Chinese star sign of the pig.
Comparable objects were recently offered and sold on the international auction market. Such Chinese zodiac amber figurines could reach higher hammer prices at auctions.
This piece is in medium condition and there is damage to the right ear visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 3.000 to 7.000 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George
