This is a souvenir from the 1893 Columbian Exposition that was held in Chicago, Illinois to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the arrival of Christopher Columbus. At the Exhibition, manufacturers, artisans and companies from around the world displayed their trade wares and sold souvenir pieces to mark the purchased was from this particular and fleeting event. Your piece, featuring a detail illustration of the Agricultural Building at the Exposition, is Irish linen in damask which is the best of the Irish linen. It was also sewn with the name of the new owner of the piece at the time. There is a niche market for world fair, exhibition and exposition souvenirs and a market for damask Irish linen.
The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
