Hi Olivia,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

Paul Revere (1734–1818) is best remembered for his midnight ride as a patriot of the American Revolution, but before and during that era he was one of the most important silversmiths in colonial America. He became one of Boston’s leading silversmiths, producing a wide range of domestic silver objects: teapots, tankards, spoons, bowls, sugar tongs, and church silver. His work is notable for its refined simplicity, balanced proportions, and clean lines, characteristic of the Georgian style popular in the 18th century. He was highly skilled in engraving, and produced decorative engravings on silver as well as political prints, currency, and bookplates.

Wood & Son was a 20th-century American silversmithing firm (active around the 1930s–1950s) that specialized in reproductions of early American silver, particularly the work of Paul Revere. They were part of a movement during the early 20th century when Colonial Revival style was very popular in the U.S. Museums, historical societies, and firms commissioned reproductions of famous American silversmiths (like Paul Revere, Jacob Hurd, and Myer Myers). Wood & Son produced faithful replicas of Revere’s classic forms — things like bowls, tankards, and porringers — usually marked with both their own stamp and often a reference to “Revere reproduction.” These were not meant to deceive collectors but to celebrate American craftsmanship and give households a chance to own a piece “in the style of” an iconic patriot-artisan.

When other Wood & Son Revere reproduction sterling silver bowls come up at auction, they usually sell between $150-250.
