Total length sword with sheath is 32 1/2" L steel blade is approx. 25" L.Sheath has what looks like brass on the top coming down about 3 1/2" and on the bottom from the acorn tip up is about 4" in between those top and bottom brass pieces is metal with no ingraving at all but the brass on top and bottom seems to be knurled like. Blade is metal with no ingraving handle is approx. 6" L and is brass with trusted metal for the grip which is about 3" of the 6"handle. There is a knights head on the top of the twisted metal handle in brass and on the bottom of the twisted metal handle looks like a bow tie in brass.
My dad found it in an attic of a house when he was in his teens.
Dear Daniel,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a sword that was made as a sign of rank and not as a weapon. The sword has a straight, not sharp blade and a decorated handle. Such weapons were used in civil organizations like firefighters or private organizations like freemasonry. This piece was made in the second half of the 19th century probably in the USA. Sadly no stamp or hallmark is visible to identify the maker.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 100 to 250 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
This is about all I can photograph of the sword. Except for the knights head on the handle and the acorn on the tip of the sheath there are no markings of any kind on the blade or the sheath except for the brass on the handle and on the end of the sheath and you can see those in the pics I've taken. There's really nothing else to say about it.
