Print appears in very good condition. Dark spots in places. I’m a little suspicious as it seems to be in far better condition than I would think for its age. Edges seem very straight compared to my other prints. Purchased by my parents in Tokyo in 1961.

Hello,
This print is a reproduction of one of the famous scenes by Utagawa Hiroshige, part of his celebrated series “One Hundred Famous Views of Edo.” The specific scene, Night Rain at Massaki on the Sumida River, captures the tranquil yet atmospheric feeling of a rainy evening near a torii gate along the river.
The sharpness of the lines, the relatively bright condition of the paper, and the comment regarding the “very straight edges” suggest that this is not an original Edo-period printing (1850s), but rather a later edition or reproduction.
Given that it was purchased in Tokyo in 1961, it aligns with the period when many skilled re-strikes were produced, particularly by publishers like Adachi, Takamizawa, and Uchida, specializing in reviving Edo-period masterworks.
