I am interested in selling both. I do realize this was for the appraisal of one. So appraise the one that seems the most interesting. On canvas. There is nothing on the back, only the initials DEP on the front along with the date of completion. It was owned by a movie theater owner named Jack Lowry in Russellville, Arkansas. The shop that framed it is permanently closed. Mr. Lowerly had four, I was able to obtain two. They are both large, one is a little bigger than the other. I wrapped them both in plastic immediately when I got them home. One of them has a heavy particle board behind the canvas. You may notice the paint smudge is on it.
53 x 45
Hello, this item is a large surrealist oil painting on canvas, signed with the initials “DEP” and dated. The composition shows clear influence from the style of Salvador Dalí and the broader school of mid-20th-century European surrealism. The landscape, melting and organic forms, and play between shadow and reflective surfaces align with the dreamlike iconography typical of Dalí, Paul Delvaux, or René Magritte, though the execution suggests a later homage rather than a contemporary work of that movement. The brushwork and color transitions indicate a technically skilled but later 20th-century artist working in imitation or tribute.
The painting measures approximately 53 x 45 inches and appears professionally framed, once exhibited or sold through Hillcrest Gallery, Little Rock, Arkansas. Works of this type, when executed by an unknown or regional artist, are valued primarily for their decorative and stylistic appeal rather than authorship. In today’s market, such a surrealist oil painting would typically fall in the range of USD 700 to 1,200 depending on surface condition, frame quality, and local collector interest.
Can you give me an update on any progress identifying the artist.
