Hi Karen,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This is a World War II era bayonet that has the asymmetrical crossguard or one-sided quillon to allow the knife to slide onto the mounting lug of the rifle. The number "2659" is not a pattern number but probably an internal tracking or inventory number. Several manufacturers made these, all in similar configuration, and matched the length of the Japanese Arisaka bayonets.
The condition of this and the scabbard are comparatively poor, with rusting and pitting to both. Similar ones in better condition are now selling at auction for between $200 and $300 so in this condition, I would expect it to bring about half that or less.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage World War II bayonet and scabbard
unattributed maker, American or European, early 20th Century
Ricasso stamped "2659"
Overall length of bayonet: 19-1/2 inches; overall length of scabbard: 17-1/2 inches
CONDITION: with wear, oxidation and pitting
PROVENANCE: inherited; acquired during World War II
$ 100-150*
