This sword belonged to my father, but I do not know the history.
Dear Chip,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. My sincere apologies for the delay with the apprisal.
The presented object appears to be a sword made out of steel, wood, and brass. The blade was not made in a North American or European manufacturer and shows a decor that reminds of the South Asian area. Additional the inlay decor on the scabbard fits this localization. This piece was probably made in the second half of the 19th century or 20th century.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 100 to 200 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
