Dear Gary Anderson,
Thank you for your appraisal submission. The work is a late 20th century oil painting on canvas measuring 23 x 19 inches in frame with a sight of 15.5 x 12 inches. It is a realist style maritime painting of a clipper ship in moonlit waters. The work is in good condition with minor abrasions to the corners, moderate cracking, and impact crackle to lower left. The work is signed illegibly to the lower right.
The lack of an artistic attribution may affect the value estimate of the work, however, Maritime paintings, and those of clipper ships have a consistent presence on the secondary market. Without an attribution, the Fair Market Value of this work considers trends in maritime artworks, quality, and age. For example, a clipper ship painting of similar size and age sold this year for $350; a 20th century maritime painting by an unknown artist sold for $150 this year. Based on these trends, we estimate the Fair Market Value of this work between $200 and $500.
Thank you for your submission.
Kind regards,
Charlotte B.
