Estate sale
Dear Phillip,
What a super tapestry in better than average! Tapestries can be a bit tricky, so please give me a few moments to research and I'll reply with your evaluation shortly.
Sincerely,
Erin-Marie
Dear Philip,
You have a lovely 19th century, hand-woven tapestry, likely of French production but possibly Belgium. I see that there is some pulling of the threads which does affect the value somewhat, being said, I'd still expect this panel to being between $400 and $600USD at auction. If you have any follow-up questions, I am at your service.
Kindest Regards,
Erin-Marie
What do the words on the tapestry say or what language
Dear Phillip,
Do you think you could upload an image of each word from a closer view that what you have already provided, I have a couple of hunches but wasn't able to confirm as the letters blend so well with the colors of the surrounding areas.
Sincerely,
Erin-Marie
yes i will and thank you
Thank you Phillip,
My feeling is that we are looking at Latin woven by those who do not understand Latin. What I have been trying to do, albeit without as much success as I'd like is decipher the 'story' of your tapestry. I am sure this illustrates a historical or biblical story, as most do, but yours has been hard to decipher.
Because tapestries are made using a cartoon (ask if you have any questions about this team in conjunction with tapestry) it is likely there are additional examples and the theme would have been a traditional story.
Your thoughts?
Sincerely,
Erin-Marie
... one more point... it is likely part of a set which in full, illustrates a story, so we are only seeing a "chapter" of the whole.
I felt it may be older, because of the hat she wears and the 2 mens shoes being from around the 15th century.....I think
OK Thank you
