Hi JJ,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
These are Spanish cup-hilt rapiers, known as espada de cazoleta. This style was developed and widely used in Spain, particularly during the 15th and 16th centuries. Each features a distinctive cup-shaped guard (taza), which was designed to protect the hand.
It's hard to say from the photos but if these are period (15th or 16th Century) examples, they are quite rare and would be worth quite a bit of money - four, maybe five figures for each - and would be of considerable interest to antique weapons dealers or auction houses that have dedicated arms and armour departments.
If they are replicas, which they are more likely to be, they would be worth quite a bit less - probably several hundred dollars for the pair. I've appraised them conditionally as replicas, subject to physical examination by an early antique armour expert.
Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, or questions/concerns, and thank you again for using Mearto.
