It was a teddy bear that has been in our family for years. It is about 1.5 feet long. Button for eyes. Moveable arms, legs and head. It does have a yellow knitted sweater. I do not see a Maker's Mark.
Great grandmother bear
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
It is a cute teddybear. Such vintage and antique toys are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
The teddy bear appears to have had a good life with much love, many cuddles and secrets told. The eyes have been replaced with buttons, and the filling has sunken slightly. The mohair fur is very worn. Bears that sell for very high prices are the ones that are in mint condition without any signs of wear and use or the very rare ones in special colours. Your great grandmothers teddy bear is a very nice bear however not one of the very rare ones. It may have been made either by a British toy manufacturer or by an American manufacturer. It was made in the first part of the 1900s.
The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online toys auction, where I believe the teddy has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to your grandmothers teddybear. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
