Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
It is a very lovely teddy bear. Such antique and vintage toys are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
Your teddy bear appears to have had a lovely life with much cuddling and love, however it also appears still to be in a fairly good condition with most of the mohair fur intact and the paws in fairly good condition as well as the stitches on the paws and nose. This is of major importance to collectors and dealers of old toys.
I cannot see any makers mark on the teddy bear however it bears the signs of the older teddy bears that have long arms, a pointed snout and a hunch on the back. The filling which is visible on the picture of the paw that is worn appears to be sawdust which was the common filling in the late 1800s and early 1900s teddy bears. Your teddy bear looks either German (perhaps Steiff, if it has the button in the ear this is a give-away) or it could be British.
Either way it is a lovely teddy from the early 1900s in fairly good condition.
I believe that your teddy would attract the attention of both collectors and dealers if it came up for auction.
The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online vintage toys auction, where I believe the teddybear has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the cute teddybear. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
