This is a vintage 20th century original painting by Doris Overman Howard (1892 - 1973). Doris was a California based commercial artist. This is a 'big tree" paintings of a view from Calaveras South Grove. She wed Ed Howard in 1926 and was employed in the Daily News Art Department. A similar, if not the same painting, catalogued as measuring 30" x 20" was offered for sale at Michaan's Auction House in 2007. It failed to sell against an estimate of $700 - $900. It was then offered again by the auction house in 2008 with a $400 - $600 estimate and sold below estimate of $300 then. This would likely sell within that range on today's market.
