Hi Julie,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
According to the Potteries of Trenton Society, Edward Marshall Boehm founded E.M. Boehm Studios in 1950 in Trenton, New Jersey, gaining renown for his lifelike porcelain sculptures, often inspired by nature. After his death in 1969, his wife Helen Boehm, known as the “Princess of Porcelain,” led the company to wider acclaim through brilliant marketing and strategic gifting to dignitaries and heads of state. The company’s molds and trademarks were acquired in 2015 by the Museum of American Porcelain Art, and The Boehm Showroom in Trenton retains exclusive rights to produce and restore Boehm works.
The Lady Diana Rose Centerpiece was made to celebrate the 1981 Royal Wedding between Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer.; just 86 were made, of which yours was number 53. It is part of a seven piece Boehm & Royal Worcester porcelain floral sculpture collection that includes the"Swan Lake Camellia" (model 300-13,, a limited edition numbered 669); the "Roy Hartley Begonia" (model 300-41, a limited edition numbered 374); the"The Lady Diana Rose Centerpiece" (model 300-66, a limited edition numbered 86); the "Sweetheart Rose" (model 20490; unknown edition); the "Yellow Rose" (model 25007, unknown edition); the "Yellow Rose in Oyster Shell" (model 300-59, a limited edition numbered 91); and the Royal Worcester white camellia blossom on branch (unknown model and edition size).
Entire sets of all 7 typically bring between $700 and $1,000 when offered at auction; individual ones bring less, usually between $300 and $500, though one that was offered at Burchard Galleries in 2019 sold for $900 against a $300-500 estimate.
