Primitive carved teak box containing woven silk headbands and neck adornments. Box is 18.5" x 8.5 H x7.5W. Hand carved. Silk pieces are very tightly woven I feel it may be Japanese or SE Asian. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Tim McLean

Hello Tim,
Happy New Year. Thank you for your appraisal inquiry with Mearto. I apologize for the delay in your appraisal and thank you for your patience.
The item presented appears to be a carved wooden basket. We are unable to determine the object's wood type due to the images uploaded and the stain applied. If the wood is indeed teak, it may be likely the basket is from South Asian (Indonesia, Malaysia, etc). However, the design and construction of the basket appear to be American Folk in style and possibly dates to the early 20th century.
The estimate provided is based on recent auction estimates and results of other comparable objects in a similar material, style, and date. The estimate is contingent on a full condition report. Please note asking or dealer prices may vary. Thank you and please take care.
Hello Tim. I apologize but the smaller items within the box will need an in-person examination before coming to a determination of origin. They may also need material testing.
Thank you, what would that involve?
I suggest that you bring the items to an appraiser in your area. You may find one in our directory here - https://mearto.com/appraisers
I am sorry I could not be more help regarding the items.
The very finely woven silk headbands and neck adornments I doubt were done in the USA. Can I send a close up image of those. That may tell us the country of origin
