Hi Ben,
My valuation is based on recent auction records of comparable pieces rather than retail. Can you please send me links to the recently advertised sales you mention so I can make sure we’re on the same page? Always happy to reconsider values if I’ve missed something
Hi Ben,
Not sure why you've had problems getting messages to me on this platform; my support forwarded your message and I've looked at the comparable at Vestaire Collective, which is still a retail site. That jacket is currently priced at $860.88; the standard retail-to-fair-market industry multiplier is the retail price is three times a low estimate or two times a high estimate, which would make the fair market on that jacket about $350-450.
Two recent sales of similar Tom Ford motorcycle style leather jackets show the current auction market for these things...it's worth noting that for both, the estimates were much lower than the price they sold it for.

https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/15805392_circa-2000-tom-ford-for-gucci-man-s-motorcycle-style-la ($600)
Given this, I'm happy to increase the auction estimate to $300-500, and have done so now.
Hey,
Could you please give a further breakdown of your valuation. I have done some research of precedent sales and found that information and sale history to be contrary to your valuation. Is there a reason why you FMV would be dramatically different to some of the recently advertised sales?
