Hi Kali,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Noritake was one of the most popular names for dinnerware in the mid 20th Century; not only was it handsome and serviceable but it was also comparatively affordable. Increasingly few people today, however, entertain in such a formal way and the market is saturated with services of varying sizes, colors, etc. Because there is less demand than supply, fair-market / auction prices for Noritake remain low, typically bringing $4-8 PER PIECE.
While you have a relatively small service with few serving pieces (platters, tureens, serving bowls, etc), the fact that you have the same (and even) number of place pieces (plates, bowls, cups), benefits its value, which I've appraised at about $6-10/piece
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage 44-piece Noritake parcel gilt Ivory China part dinner service for 8
in the Tracery pattern (#7258), made in Japan, bearing the back stamp in use beginning in October 1962, comprising:
8 dinner plates (10-1/2 inches diameter)
8 salad plates (8-1/4 inches diameter)
8 bread and butter plates (6-1/2 inches diameter)
8 cups with 8 saucers (3 inches()
1 cream pitcher
1 covered sugar bowl
1 oval serving platter (14 inches)
1 oval vegetable bowl (10 inches)
CONDITION: this service appears to be in generally good condition with the only noted flaw being a chip to the serving platter.
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$250-450 for the set*
