Size is 170/230. Dense rug with a classic Caucasian pattern. Red, beige, dark blue and green. Intricate designs. Made of 100% aliphatic polymers. Bought from Van Neder Carpets. Design number 7802. Colour number 80.
Hello, My husband and I recently bought a new rug for our house at a second hand shop in Denmark for about $30 USD. It looks like a Chi Chi Caucasian rug to us, which seem to go for a lot of money. On the tag it says it was made in Belgium and we can’t seem to find a photo of this exact rug anywhere else. We have found a green version of what looks like the same rug online, which goes for something like $10,000.00. Thanks so much for your help! Laura
Dear Laura,
This is a beautiful carpet / rug and you are correct it is a Tschi Tschi (or Chi Chi) rug, well done! Currently at auction, similar patterns sell between $1000USD and $4000USD, it’s a wide range that depends deeply upon the condition, size and color retention of the piece. I’d expect to see yours in the middle of this range around $1500USD - $2000USD. Once in a retail setting you can usually expect at least three times the auction price, so I’d expect $4500USD - $6000USD depending upon the previous variations I’ve mentioned, the type of store selling the piece, their clientele and market interest.
Let me know if you have any follow up questions and thank you for your submission, great eye!
Cheers,
Erin-Marie

Hi Erin-Marie,
Thanks a lot for the thorough, quick answer.
We were initially unsure of the value since it seems to have been made in Belgium, and we have found another rug that is made in Germany. So it is of lesser importance where it's made, but more so how it's made?
Thanks again - we appreciate your help.
