Hello Leonard,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Turkish Kayserie Rug. The piece likely dates back to the period from 1970-1990. It is decorted by classical Kayserie floral patterns and with same knotting style using the Turkish Symmetrical knot. The piece looks like what we call a "quarter" in rug market. This refers to the prayer rugs or slightly larger area rugs. Kayserie rugs are known for their high precision, high knot density and for ther thin rug body. Earlier pieces tend to have higher knot density and more precise motifs. This pieces as well as yours were knotted wool on cotton. This piece is centrally decorated whichmeans it has a central medallion. he central medallion of this piece was decorated florally on a pale Turquoise colour. There are two lanterns haging from both sides of the medallion which are also styled florally. Kayserie pieces usually adopts smaller details from Persian pieces and combines them with Turkish style of decoration. We can see this on the borders of the piece, while the colour type and flowers are native to Turkish pieces the circular leavescirculating through the borders are smilar to Persian Kashan Pieces. The central are of the rug was knotted on a pale salmon colour base. Turkish piece are knotted with symmetrical Turkish knot therefore it is sgnificantly harder to render a circular motif, the distinguished value of Kayserie piece are earned by masters whom were able to render even the most coplex motifs with the Turkish knot. The geometrical appearance of the motifs on your piece is due to this knot system. The piece knot quality is average for a Kayserie piece. The piece is in good condition without any visible problems.
