Purchased by inlaws for me at small jewelry store on main street Hudson NY about 1992, I believe she paid #300.00 at that time. The Certificate and pueblo name has been lost over time. This hangs about 14 inches when worn.and came, I was told, directly from native artist in the Southwest when the store owner was on a buying trip there to pick up original pieces for his store in NY. Count 24 large carved animals with smaller animals in between. .Folded in half from the white leather top to the bottom of center carved bear in about 18 inches.
It was sold to mother in law as new artist carved,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
It is a beautiful vintage necklace. Such vintage handcrafted pieces of jewellery are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
The necklace is very unique and has an extraordinary design and use of the turquoise stones. The handcraft is very skilled and it makes the necklace very special. Today turquoise jewellery is not the most sought after however based on the unique design and the very good condition of the necklace and good quality of the carving I believe that it would attract the attention of both collectors and dealers if it came up for auction.
As for the estimate it is a shame that the original certificate has been lost - this often assures the potentiel buyers and adds to the value.
The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online jewellery auction, where I believe the necklace has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the beautiful and special necklace. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
