Hi Claiborne,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
While the carved figural decoration on these is Chinese, these would not have been made for the local market but instead for the tourist or export market; this is additionally evident in the carving on the frames of the top and the legs, which have European-style decoration.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A pair of two Chinese export carved hardwood nesting tables
probably mid 20th Century
Each of rectangular section, with four graduated tables centering carved figural decoration on the tops (under glass), with carved frames, straight legs and box stretchers. Presumably unsigned.
(DIMENSIONS)
CONDITION: These tables appear to be in generally very good condition with minor wear commensurate to age and use.
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$ 1,000-1,500 for the pair*
