I know almost nothing about the collection of these icons. My mom's friend died many years ago, and these have been in my mom's house since. The appear to be modern re-creations as they have modern felt on them.

Hi Aaron,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This is an Orthodox 8-pointed cross that shows Christ with a halo rather than a crown of thorns and includes both a top bar and a slanted bottom bar that symbolizes the "balance beam of righteousness" with the walls of Jerusalem behind it. The inscriptions on both the front and back are not Russian but Slavic, possibly Bulgarian.
The translations on the top front of the crucifix read "Jesus of nazareth, King of the Jews" and "King of Glory" as well as ""Not made by hands." The inscription on the back reads: "As You were voluntarily raised upon the cross for our sake, / Grant mercy to those who are called by Your Name, O Christ God; / Gladden all Orthodox Christians by Your power, / Granting them victories over their adversaries, /By bestowing on them the Invincible trophy, Your weapon of Peace." It is a blessing usually given by Orthodox priests.
The market for religious artifacts has seen great fluctuations lately but ones of this size and age - late 19th/early 20th Century - typically sell for $600-900 when sold at auction these days.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An antique Slavic Orthodox cast silvered brass and enamel crucifix icon

Great!
My (former) colleague has asked if its possible to see a clearer photograph of the inscription?
Thanks!
Delia
I'm having trouble uploading them to the app. I will not let me upload new images and on my end, the original images are missing with broken links.
Aaron,
We are experience issues with our image software and I'm unable to see photos of your tray table.
We are working to resolve this issue ASAP but in the meantime, if you are able to email photos of this icon to [email protected], they'll forward the photos so I can keep working on this appraisal.
I apologize for the inconvenience and delay,
Delia
Just emailed those over :) Thank you!
Thanks, Aaron, many thanks. Let me know if you have questions etc, otherwise you're all set. Have a great Thanksgiving.
Delia
Hi Delia,
Sorry for the late reply. I got called to work in South Dakota and am just now getting back to this project. There are 13 of these that I'll be submitting for appraisal and looking to eventually sell. Thank you for getting a detailed assessment and appraisal on the first one, and I look forward to finding out the origin of all of them. Hope you are having a good holiday season.
Aaron
Thanks, Aaron, I'm looking forward to working on the rest of your icons if/when you have the opportunity to upload more. Happy Holidays,
Delia
Thank you! Not a problem at all. There are a few of them I'll eventually want to get appraised and sell.
Aaron
