Hi Aaron,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Holy water fonts are small receptacles or basins used in Catholic and other Christian churches to hold holy water for blessing or purification. They are often placed near the entrance of a church so that congregants can dip their fingers into the water and make the sign of the cross upon entering or leaving.
In the current market, such fonts are selling for between $50-150.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An antique cast lead holy water font
probably French, 19th Century
A cast crucifix with scrolled and flourished ends mounted on a red-velvet lined shaped base above a lobed lead bowl.
8-1/2 inches (21.6 cm) high by 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide
CONDITION: This font appears to be in good all-original condition with fading and losses to the red velvet backing.
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$50-150*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.

Thanks, Aaron, and Happy New Year to you!
Hi sorry crazy holiday period and just getting back to this project.
It is wood under the pink (formerly red) fabric.
Neither is magnetic, and the metal feels decently heavy, so maybe lead.
Thank you!!
