This black silk vintage hangbag is 9.25" wide 5.5" tall with an opening width of 3". It appears to be from the 1920s. It has a pearl accent snap closure.
The previous owner was a collector of vintage handbags from the 20s, sadly I am unsure of this unmarked handbags history.
Dear Gina,
Thank you for your request. Are there any markings on the metal parts of the closure and can you add detail images of it? Thank you.
With kind regards,
Georg
Hi there, do you need any other information from me? Thanks Gina
Dear Gina,
Thank you for the additional images and your patience. the presented object is a handbag made out of a black fabric, possibly silk, and an closure made in a yellowish metal with white stones and a pearl. There are no labels or producer marks visible. The closure is also not marked so a non-ferrous metal was used. We can see at the drift pin of the lock that the golden color is rubbed down. So it is highly probable that the white stones are glass or rhinestone and also the pearl an artificial material. It is not possible to judge the authenticity of a pearl on the base of images. As a little trick to prove a pearl you can rub the surface of the pearl on your teeth. When it feels even it is an artificial pearl when you can feel a resistance comparable to an emery paper it is a natural pearl. But in my opinion, if the closure would be made in worthy material the metal would be stamped and the handbag would be labeled. It is unlikely that this is a handbag made by a known designer or known label because of this argumentation. Nevertheless, it is a decorative handbag.
An estimation would be between 20 to 40 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
With best regards,
Georg
Thank you
Dear Gina,
You are very welcome!
With kind regards,
Georg
Hi George, I just took several more pictures of the closure. There are no identifying markings on the closure. I looked and examined it up close to make sure. I took as many pictures and different angles for you. I hope this helps.
