Dear Judith,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This unsigned oil painting appears to be by the Britsh artist called Thomas Blinks (1860-1912).
This is an animal painting of two young hunting dogs.
Sight: 4 1/2”h x 6 1/2”w.
Framed: 9 1/2" x 11 1/2"
It is housed in an original gilt frame, and it appears to be in good condition overall.
Thomas Blinks is regarded among the best sporting artists of the late 19th and early 20th century in Britain. He exhibited extensively throughout his lifetime, including showing at the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of Artists in London.
The estimation highlighted in red above is based on comparables offered and sold at auction in the last five years. The subject work’s size, the composition, condition (based on photographs and comments provided), as well as the artists’ current auction market were taken into consideration when determining the estimate. In many cases, pricing for similar items available on the primary (retail) market vary and are often higher than secondary (auction) market examples.
Please note that similar works by Thomas Blinks, which are signed or which have been fully authenticated ( with full proven provenance history and reviewed by an expert) can get much higher figures than the one above.
