Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a chinese baluster vase of recent production bearing a Da Qing Tongzhi Nian Zhi mark and a triangular factory mark. The vase is decorated in a kind of japanese Imari style, depicting japanese women wearing kimonos, sitting under blossoming cherry branches. One Kimono decorated with the Shimazu Clan Mon ( trying to establish a connection to Satsuma ware), the side with the Mon of the japanese imperial family. I am afraid to say that this is a very blunt fake of only decorative value.
Can you please tell me what is fake about it Is it the stamp or the porcelain
Well, it is a genuine porcelain vase. And it is even a genuine chinese vase. But the maker tried to deceive the buyer by putting a tongzhi mark on a completey new vase, imitating japanese Imari styles. To some degree -if the vase is already antique -this is accepted by scholars, as most of the chinese vases have misleading reign marks, it is part of chinese tradition. The vase in your possession has the looks of a japanese vase - and it is not. It is the combination of both, chinese production but japanese appearance.
So what is it worth ?
