I bought this item at auction it was described as yard art and covered in about a quarter inch of hard dirt.It came on a custom-made stand which led me to believe that it was not yard art. It has a red yellow and green rod holding up the main part. The middle finial is made out of wood and his colored and the rod comes to a sharp point at the end which balances in a hole drilled at the bottom of the base. I have taken a soft bristle toothbrush to it to try to remove most of the dirt. I haven’t found any initials or signatures yet

Dear Dominic,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a metal sculpture with unknown measurements. The sculpture was made out of cold painted metal and was regarding the stylistic and the corrosion in the middle or second half of the 20th century. There is no signature or any initials visible and the stylistics and the material would be classified as yard art. The dating is extremely indifferent.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 150 to 300 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
Hello,
I would like a refund. Your appraisal is wrong. This is a Asen Fon from Benin and was appraised at 3x your appraisal which was wrong.
Dear Dominic,
Thank you for your email and excuse my mistake. Indeed this is an Asen Fon from Benin made in the 20th century. A very interesting ceremonial objects. Of course, we give you a refund. I contact the back office and they get in contact with you. Excuse the wrong estimation but I researched in the wrong category. Comparable Asen Fons were sold between 300 to 900 USD.
With kind regards,
Georg
Hello,
I have been unable to find any initials or markings. It had vary hard dirt all over it. I’ve been able to brush a lot of the dirt away revealing more colors on it. The riveting on it looks really old. The center post seems to be made of iron. The diamond shaped decorative piece in the middle is made of wood. I have taken better pics outside in the day light if you would like them. I appreciate your help. Thank you.
