It is in bad shape due to its age. It was a gift from a collector. It is wooden.
The cross on the base is 17 inches tall.
Hi Salvador,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Religious artifacts are a fairly specific collecting category that currently has a softer market than it has enjoyed in previous years, with an aging and contracting buyer base and fewer incoming or new buyers to the field. Works in poor condition - which I'm sorry to say this is - can suffer in this marketplace as there tends to be greater supply than demand and buyers can be choosy, paying more money for works in good/better condition.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An antique carved wood crucifix
American or European, probably late 19th or early 20th Century
A carved figure of Christ nailed to a cross, set into a shaped base.
17 inches height overall
CONDITION: Wear throughout; Christ is missing his right arm. Abrasions and surface losses throughout.
PROVENANCE: Gift
$75-100*
