Victor Vasarely set of serigraph (I think) medium VV319 edition159. Signed and purchased from Circle Art Gallery San Francisco during the artist visit and first west coast show in 1990. Met the artist. These are about 17” * 17* in the original frames and have the original purchase in back of each. They are numbered exactly the same as they were sold as a set.
It was part of the West Coast tour of VV in 1990 with Circle Gallery as the acting representative for his work. I am the original owner.
Hello Boby,
Thank you for your appraisal inquiry with MeArto. The items presented appears to be serigraphs by listed artist Victor Vasarely (Hungarian-French; 1906 – 1997). The prints are both signed and numbered 159 of an edition 175 to the lower margin. These two images are often seen together as a set. So, it is nice to see them together still, as the artist intended.
Widely considered a father of the Op Art movement, Vasarely was known for his colorful paintings and serigraphs. The artist took inspiration from various European influences including Bauhaus design principles, Surrealism and Constructivism. Vasarely’s works are noted for their ability to create illusionary depth with color, geometric repetition, and strong graphic designs.
"VV319" may be a kind of inventory design code. As Vasarely rarely titled his works, codes or numbers would organize the artist's catalogue of works. The estimate provided applied to the set of two prints and based on recent auction estimates and results of these serigraphs by Victor Vasarely.
Thank you. Please take care and stay healthy.
Thanks for the appraisal.
