The appraised work is a colored lithograph titled ‘The Village Lighthouse’ executed by American artist Thomas Kinkade (1958-2012). The print is 17 out of an edition of 1950 and is signed verso. The print depicts a picturesque village nestled into a rocky shore in England with a lighthouse in the background. Kinkade grew up in California and got his start as an artist painting background art for film. After working as a background painter, Kinkade decided to earn a living as a professional artist and began selling his work in galleries throughout California.
The estimate provided is based on comparables recently offered and sold at auction. Kinakde’s lithographs regularly appear at auction, offered at houses across the US. Overall, the results are fairly consistent, with prints typically selling within or above their high presale estimates. The subject work’s size, composition, condition (based on photographs provided), as well as the artist’s current auction market were taken into consideration when determining the estimate.
