I purchased this old fellow at an estate sale. He measures 17 inches tall. He has seen on glass bead eyes a sewn on black nose and mouth and "toes" on his feet. He does not have the long arms of the very old bears. His arms measure about 7 1/2 inches long. His paws and feet are sewn in with a brown crackly covering. He is jointed at his neck arms and legs. He appears to be made of a golden mohair. He is stuffed with straw (?) And has the friendliest face.
The bear came from the estate of an old American admiral. He was in his 90's when he passed away. He was lying in a bundle with other vintage toys of various ages
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
It is a cute vintage teddy. Such vitage teddybears are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
It appears that the teddybear has had a good life with much love and handling from its owner. This influences the price when there are visible signs of wear and use. However it has a cute face, made of mohair as you descibe and is also filled with the original straw. It may be a Schuco bear from the first half of the 20th century.
The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online old toys and teddybears auction, where I believe the teddybear has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the teddy. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
