Hi Christopher,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Montreal Expos met only once in a National League Championship Series—the 1981 NLCS—but it became one of the most memorable postseason matchups in baseball history.
Because of the 1981 players’ strike, the season was split in half, and the Expos—who had never reached the postseason before—qualified by winning the second half of the NL East. Montreal won the first two games at home, while the Dodgers took the next two in Los Angeles, forcing a decisive Game 5 at Olympic Stadium.
The series is remembered almost entirely for Rick Monday’s late home run off Steve Rogers in the 9th inning of Game 5, which sent the Dodgers to the World Series. Montreal fans still refer to it as “Blue Monday.”
The Dodgers went on to win the 1981 World Series, while the Expos never again reached the NLCS before the franchise relocated to Washington.
This shirt is comparatively hard to come by and - if it was professionally cleaned and offered for sale in a vintage sports memorabilia auction, I could see it bringing between $200 and $300.
