Hi Daniel,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Face the Heat (1993) marks a pivotal transitional moment for the German hard rock band Scorpions, reflecting both lineup change and adaptation to a shifting rock landscape in the early 1990s. The album moved toward a heavier, more aggressive sound than the band’s late-1980s global hits like “Wind of Change” and “Still Loving You.” Produced by Bruce Fairbairn, it incorporated thicker guitar tones, industrial-tinged production elements and a harder-edged vocal approach from Klaus Meine.
Their tour was one of the band's first major "post-Cold War" world tours in a rapidly changing geopolitical climate and their European concerts often carried a sense of transition and hope. They developed a strong presence in South America and continued to find appeal in North America despite the growing influence of "grunge." Face The Heat continued their reputation for large-scale lighting and pyrotechnics, a polished arena style of performance and a mix of classic hits and newer material to appeal to the broadest possible audience demographics.
Richa is a Belgian, family-owned motorcycle clothing company best known for producing jackets, gloves, pants, and protective riding gear rather than fashion apparel. The company was founded in 1952 by Charles Rigaux, original making leather gloves; the name is a shortened version of Rigaux Charles, or RiCha. By the 1970s, the company expanded into offering a complete line of motorcycle clothing. Headquarters were established in Michelbeke, Belgium in the early 1990s and, now an international exporter, they sell in between 40 and 60 countries. The company additionally gained credibility when Belgian and Dutch police departments adopted their gear for duty use.
Richa’s importance lies in being one of the few surviving independent European motorcycle apparel manufacturers that scaled from a small leather workshop into a global brand without losing its family ownership. It sits in the “mid-to-high quality value segment,” bridging the gap between budget gear and premium racing brands.
A vintage Richa leather biker's jacket - without the Scorpions' provenance - would have a fair market value of between $150 and $250, with ones currently listed for sale online retailing for between $500 and $600.
Once you add in the Scorpions' provenance, the value multiplies several fold. You don't mention if this jacket is signed but if it were offered at auction with an affidavit certifying its provenance to a recognized Face the Heat crew member, I would not be surprised if it sold at auction for between $800 and $1,200. To maximize your exposure, I would highly recommend working with an auction house that specializes in both music / entertainment and motorcycle memorabilia (Heritage, Julians, Bonhams). Specialists in those departments might be able to find out how many of these jackets were made, confirm the provenance, etc.
Let me know if this was signed by any/all members of the band as that would increase its value even more.
