When purchased we were told by Simic Galleries in LaJolla that Pierre Renoir was the grandson of Pierre-Auguste Renoir.

This is a vintage, late 20th century, dated 1985 painting by Pierre Roland Renoir (b. 1958). Pierre Roland Renoir is a great-grandson of the French Impressionist painter, Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919). Pierre Roland was born in Monaco and raised in Cagnes-sur-Mer; he then had to emigrate to Canada in 1978 and apparently he destroyed all the artwork he had created up to that time. In Edmonton, Alberta he began art again and in 1981 had a solo show and has been showing and represented by minor California Galleries since then. He is not yet a listed artist, meaning his works are not sought after on the secondary market. His primary gallery 'banks' on his name association and relation to a known and highly sought after artist. Generally, it is a bit of a conflict of interest for a primary gallery to provide and speculate an appraisal value of an item they sold. The vast majority of artworks, once sold through a primary gallery, do not gain nor retain the original purchase value.
