Hello, this item is an oil on masonite painting by Italian artist Walter Lazzaro, dated 1956, depicting a coastal scene with a striped beach cabin, a subject closely associated with mid-20th century Italian seaside imagery. The composition, with its controlled geometry, strong Mediterranean light, and restrained yet luminous palette, aligns well with Lazzaro’s known body of work, particularly his interest in quiet, almost metaphysical landscapes. The visible signature “W. Lazzaro 56” appears consistent in placement and style with documented examples, and the presence of an original label on the reverse with biographical notes further supports attribution. The use of masonite as a support was common in Italian painting of this period, and the overall execution shows confident brushwork and a refined handling of light and atmosphere, reinforcing its authenticity as a period work rather than a later reproduction.
From a market perspective, Walter Lazzaro maintains a stable but moderate position within the secondary market, with smaller works such as this typically appealing to collectors of Italian modernism and coastal subjects. Value depends on composition, condition, and confirmation of authenticity, all of which appear favorable here given the signature, label, and reported conservation history. Comparable works generally trade between $1,000 and $3,000 USD. A realistic fair market value for this painting would be between $1,500 and $2,500 USD.
