As his biological father was Runquist, I thought perhaps I could have stumbled upon a LeRoy Nieman whereby he signed his Original last name for some reason
Purchased at an estate sale in Columbia, Md
This is a vintage, 20th century, about 1940's watercolor on paper that is signed at the lower left and depicts a couple enjoying their outdoor space on a warm day with their poodle type dog. Though it would be nice to have discovered an early work by Leroy Neiman, this is actually signed D. Lunquist and not L. Runquist. There really is no history of him signing the last name of his biological father. In addition, works done outside of the oeuvre of an artist's typical style, or early works produced during student years do not command a higher price or collector interest on the market. Collectors want to own works that are recognizable. There are not any listed artist to match any permutation of spelling. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
