Civil War rifle inherited from father-
Length 551/2 or 56 inches approximately
My father bought it in 1960 in the South- never been shot- has been kept hanging in our home since then.
Dear Joe,
Thank you for your help and patience. My sincere apologies for the delay with the appraisal.
The presented object appears to be a Whitneyville Modl 1861 percussion lock musket. This model was produced in high numbers by Whitneyville. The lock plate is stamped with the manufacturer's name, "1861", and "US".
Comparable objects were recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in bad to medium condition and but severe constructional damage is visible in the images provided. The metal parts are large scaled corroded.
A fair market estimation would be between 300 to 600 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George
