Hi Danny,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Wilbur Smith’s “The Courtneys” series is one of his most significant and enduring bodies of work — a sweeping, multigenerational saga that chronicles the rise and evolution of a powerful South African family across centuries. The series, which weren't written in chronological order and which ultimately featured 20 titles, can be grouped by historical era. "When the Lion Feeds" (1964), "The Sound of Thunder" (1966) and "A Sparrow Falls" (1977) fall into his "Colonial and Frontier" titles and cover the family’s role in Africa’s 19th-century frontier wars and diamond rushes.
I'm not certain if there was a personal relationship between Smith and Thai Princess Vimala Chatra but it undoubtedly adds to the value of a book that would otherwise be valued - in a fair-market setting for auction purposes - at $20-30
