The print was purchased in 1985, already framed from H.H. Leonard Company in Washington, D.C. I recently took the frame off. There is some mildew around the edges of the backing board. The print itself is in pretty good condition with one small yellow spot visible and spots on the upper edge where it was taped to the backing board.
Purchased from H.H. Leonard Co. in Washington, D.C.
Dear Vikki,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a silkscreen print on paper with measurements of 30 x 34 inches. The print depicts a woman with a dove sitting on her legs and it has the title "Paen" and was made in 1978 with an edition of 225. This print appears to be hand-signed by the American artist Will R. BARNET (1911-2012). This artist is famous for his painting, drawings, and print which depict stylized figures from a dreamlike world. During his career, he was honored with numerous prizes for his artistic work.
Works by this artist were recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in medium condition and there is slightly foxing and damages to the edges of the paper visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 500 to 700 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
The artist is Will Barnet. There is a ton of information about him if you just google it. He lived to be 104 years old! I don't think you put much effort into this job.
Dear Vikki,
I am terribly sorry for my mistake. Somehow this indeed famous artist was not displayed in the common databases for auction prices. This is always the first step to research the market value for an artist. The biggest database are artprice and artnet. I update the estimation.
With kind regards,
Georg
The print measures 30" x 34"
