with regulator dial and six dials, full plate key wound fusee verge movement with pierced and engraved balance cock, signed Wm. Carpenter and numbered 4068, 3 arm steel balance, squared baluster pillars, signed and numbered cap, hour chapter white enamel dial with Roman numerals with Arabic minutes,, running seconds at 3, and four other subsidiary chapter with Arabic numerals, gold arrow-shaped hands, large florally engraved 18ct gold pair cases with musical and floral engraving, movement and cap signed, 80mm diameter.

William Carpenter was an established London based maker who was well known for making watches featuring interesting complications to the dial and often musical automata which were popular with the Chinese market. There are examples of both his clocks and watches in the Palace Museum in Beijing.
