The weapon is in fairly good shape. It has names engraved on the stock. Ford on one side and Duke John on the other. It was handed down from someone in the movie business so curious if there may be a connection to John Wayne. Nickel steel barrel especially for smokeless powder. Number on the trigger mechanism is 194226. Original leather strap.
End to end 43 1/2 inches

Dear Robert,
Thank you for your help and patience.
The presented object appears to be a Winchester M1894 lever-action carbine rifle 32 W.C. cal. It has an octagonal barrel and serial number 194226 which dates this piece to the year 1900. The stock is marked with the names "Duke John" and "Ford". This is an interesting modification, which could lead to John Wayne "Duke" and John Ford. Sadly this is just speculation and needs to be proven with papers or photos.
Comparable objects were recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in good condition and no severe damage is visible in the images provided.
Fair market estimation for on M1894 Winchester carabine without including a potential provenance to a movie actor would be between 500 to 1.000 USD.
This estimate is based on recent recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George
