On canvas, scene of trees in the forest covered with snow. The frame and mounting on the back appear to be very old. The front of the painting is covered with glass. The signature kind of looks like "Miller" to me, but not sure.
26x14 outer frame; 23x11 painting
Storage unit clearance.
Hi Susan,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
I've scanned the artist auction databases we have access to and am not coming up with an exact match, though this is very typical of regional American mid-20th Century landscape painting and may be by an artist whose body of work has either not survived in large numbers or simply has not come up for auction before. It has a nice decorative look and is valued accordingly.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
American School, probably 20th Century
Untitled winter forest landscape
oil or acrylic on canvas
signed "N. Miller" lower right
stretcher 23 by 11 inches, framed 26 by 14 inches
CONDITION: appears to be in generally good condition with some expected dirt and dust accumulation; behind glass.
PROVENANCE: acquired at a storage unit clearance sale
$100-150*
