The inrō is a traditional Japanese case for holding small objects, the equivalent to pockets on western clothes. The inrō was suspended from the obi, the traditional japanese belt. The box in your possession is well crafted , possibly made from southern elm and ebonized southern elm. The estimate is based on similar items offered or sold at auction. There is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to it.
