Purchased at Sacks Fifth Avenue Home Store for $7,000.00 8' X 12'
Purchased New
Hi David,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. It's somewhat unfortunate that the resale market for rugs is not unlike that for cars - as soon as you drive it off the showroom it loses a considerable portion of its value. While the auction market for Aubusson rugs (and rugs made in the Aubusson style) is robust, for the most part the latter rarely sell above $2,000 or 3,000 and they need to be quite clean, without odor or stains.
If this was made at the Aubusson tapestry factories, there should be a label; I don't see one so am basing my value on this being made "in the style of Aubusson." If it has a label please let me know and I'll amend the value ASAP.
Based on the photographs and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An Aubusson style hand-knotted carpet
20th Century
8 by 12 feet
$1,500-2,500*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, and thank you again for using Mearto.
