12' x 20' wool oriental rug. Purchased from a private buyer. Was used as a prayer rug at a Buddist temple in the Washington DC area. I'm looking for some full images of the rug. I don't have a room big enough to lay the entire thing out.
Purchased in 1999. Previous owner: Madhu & Katja Damania, producer for NBC, retired in 1992. Katjia told me that this rug had previously been in a buddist temple in the Washington DC area.
Dear Jeannette,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. Your rug is a Kashan rug dating from the early to mid 20th century. Based on the photographs provided your rug appears to be in good condition. It is handwoven out of vegetable-dyed wool. The Kashan rugs surfaced from one of the oldest cities, Kashan, Iran, that shares its namesake. The origin of the Kashan dates back to the 17th century. The rugs' pastel tones to evoke neutral and subtle effect and are fleshed out with predominant shades of red, blue, indigo and ivory with greens and blues on red, blue or indigo backdrops. The most common design of Kashan rugs features a center medallion with a curve linear motifs like palmettos, leaves and arabesques designs encompass it throughout its surface area. From the medallion outward, the work across the rug’s body is densely designed, giving it a thorough amount of character and originality that sets it apart from other Persian rug styles. Based on recent price realizations for rugs similar to yours fair market value would be between 2000 and 5000 US dollars. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks
Morgan
