This rug was hanging on a wall in a furnished house I purchased. I don't think it's very old but I do not know anything about it. Hoping you can help. Thank you!

Hi Jen,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This is a kilim, a type of flat-woven textile traditionally made in the Middle East, Anatolia (modern Turkey), the Balkans, the Caucasus, Iran, Central Asia, and parts of North Africa. The geometric patterns identify this as being from the Caucasus, a mountainous area at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia, between the Black Sea to the west and the Caspian Sea to the east.
Though the condition of this appears to be largely GOOD and this retains very strong colors, (despite some minor losses at the edges), the market for kilims is fairly modest at present, with most comparable (in age and size) examples selling at auction for prices below $300.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage Caucasian hand-loomed wool kilim carpet
mid/late 20th Century
With eight-point stars within six-sided medallions, within red and yellow borders, cream-colored selvedges.
41-1/2 inches by 65 inches )(3 feet 5-1/2 inches by 5 feet 5 inches)
CONDITION: With some wear commensurate to age and use.
PROVENANCE: Acquired with a home purchase
$150-250*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
