I think this rifle was owned by a Nazi soldier who was a confidant to Adolph Hitler. The name Otto Dietrich, Sergeant is inscribed on it.
Sergeant Otto Dietrich. Nazi WWII soldier I believe it was owned by.
Dear Kim,
Thank you for your help and patience.
The presented object appears to be a modified German Zündnadelgewehre M/62 or Zündnadel-Pioniergewehr M/69. This rifle has a modified stock probably for use for cavalry. It was produced in the city of Spandau close to Berlin and part of the Prussian state. It is also stamped with the initials of King of Prussia and first German Emporer Friedrich Wilhelm. The octagonal middle part of the barrel names the former owner of this rifle Otto Dietrich, Sergeant in Strassburg. This means this rifle was used in the 1870/1871 war against France.
This piece is in bad to medium condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 300 to 600 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George
