Gift
Dear Boyd,
Thank you for the request. This is a table lighter made out of porcelain by the Japanese company Yamato. Table lighter was common in the late 19th and in the 20th century when smoking was a common habit and offering cigarets and a lighter to guests was a part of hospitality. The lighter has a porcelain case which is decorated with motifs from Japanese art in a transfer lithography procedure. This table lighter was probably made in the first half of the 20th century.
An estimation would be between 15 and 45 AUD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
With best regards,
Georg
